Lakeside Downtown Kincardine has a craft brewery! Grey Matter Beer Company began serving its own beers in April 2018 and quickly established a reputation for its high quality and great tasting brews.
Owners Meag Durkin and Michael Hueftlein met as students in 2015 while attending the Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management Program at Niagara College. After graduation, Mike took a position at Newstead Brewery while Meag worked at Perth Brewery. In 2017 they came to Kincardine and began a major 16-month renovation of a main street storefront and installed their own brewery.
Today Grey Matter Beer Company attracts craft beer fans from across the region. Grey Matter has 4 primary brews – a lager, a pale ale, an oatmeal stout and a wheat brew - that are available all year round and can be found in our local restaurants and pubs. They also have 12-15 seasonal beers that are brewed and available for 2-8 weeks, depending on supplies. What has become very popular, especially with locals, is their weekly brew lab. Every Thursday, Grey Matter releases a limited quantity brew featuring specially selected ingredients for that week which is often paired with a food offering from a local restaurant. This weekly brew lab product is released at 4:00 pm and it’s usually exhausted by 6:00 pm. It’s a tasty treat for those who truly like to indulge in the craft beer experience!
Grey Matter Beer Company is a unique craft brewery, offering not only great tasting beers, but an appealing social experience. Customers gather for board games and cards, bring their own snacks and participate in special events and community fundraisers. Meag and Mike are truly excellent hosts!
